RM32.92 million paid to Covid-19 victims’ family

KUALA LUMPUR - The government through the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) has paid over RM32.92 million for Covid-19 funeral assistance until Nov 1.

Minister in the Prime Minister Department (Special Tasks) Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad said the compensation payments were made to 6,584 families of those who died due to the virus.

“The payments does not have any due-dates and will be wired through the Covid-19 Nadma Fund, which was donated by the public,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was responding Barisan Nasional's Machang Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who asked about the total amount of donations and compensation that has been channeled to Covid-19 victims' next of kind.

In relations to the issue, Pakatan Harapan's Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar suggested that the government create a database to keep track of the process.

Abdul Latiff, in response, said the government via the Malaysia Social Protection Council was currently developing the Social Protection Database.

The database contains information of Malaysian citizens and social protection programmes by various ministries and agencies.

He said the system will be a single gateway and the main source of reference for protection programmes consisting of their occupation, social insurance and elements of social assistance.

"The Social Protection Database is expected to be completed by the first half of 2022," he said.
