SHAH ALAM - A book, driven by the moral decay in Malaysia’s political arena and governance, titled “Corruption and Hypocrisy in Malay-Muslim Politics: The Urgency of Moral-Ethical Transformation” by Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Kamal Hassan will be launched on Dec 16, 2021.

Described as a vital book of this generation, it is set to be launched alongside Sinar Harian’s Live Forum with four panelists; PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar and Dr Maszlee Malik, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman and Umno’s Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

The Live Forum is scheduled to begin at 8.30pm with a keynote address by the author himself, who will give insights about the book and views not the matter at hand.

It will then be followed by a question and answer session before the panel discussion begins. It will be moderated by Kota Buka chief executive officer Sayed Munawar Sayed Mohd Mustar.

The book, published by independent social think tank Emir Research , emphasises on the socio-political transformation of the Malay-Muslim community.

Emir Research, in a statement, said this book was provides practical ideas, guidelines and frameworks for a critical rethinking of community’s political ecosystem.

“The author emphasised how racially-motivated political strategies and ethnic-based prejudices will continue drive hostility on both sides of the Malaysian political divide, and highlighted the blatant hypocrisy when those prejudices are camouflaged by both sides invoking the rhetoric of national interest, virtues of national unity, economic equity, democratic principles or universal human rights.

"Prof Mohd Kamal Hassan condemns how political bribery, corruption or economic threats are used to augment the promotion or preservation of a particular ethnic community’s interest, bringing to light the existence of sinister underground agents of financial seduction or coercion for the purpose of maintaining “the black economy” or to secure a demographic advantage in some strategic political constituencies,” it said.

The think tank hopes this book will make an impact to the community who are also searching for improvements and reforms in the Malay-Muslim political behaviour and culture as well as Islamic political solidarity, cooperation and unity.
