PADANG BESAR - Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs) is preparing a star-rating system to be used to gauge the quality of 'maahad tahfiz' (religious schools) in the state.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) president, said the star rating would determine compliance of the schools' concerned to the stipulated standards and quality.

"I hope the 'maahad tahfiz' in Perlis will be a model for other maahad tahfiz in terms of management, governance and curriculum, marketability of students and as well as the conducive environment," he said in his speech at a cycling programme organised by MAIPs 'Kayuhan Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis (MAIPs) Peduli Bilangan 54/2017' at Madrasah Miftahul Hidayah Beseri near here last night.

He said all religious schools in the state were subjected to the Perlis Enactment on Regulations for Islamic Religious Schools 1988.

MAIPs, he said, allocated RM4,785,000 a year to be given as financial aid, including grants, to Islamic education institution, including maahad tahfiz, registered with JAIPs.

"The aspect on balance in curriculum and infrastructure should be emphasised to safeguard the wellbeing of students. so that the well-being of students.

"I hope there'll be no more sad incidents reported in maahad tahfiz, such as bullying, cheat, abuse, fight, as well as negligence that could result in loss of life," he added.

He also suggested for students at maahad tahfiz to be given training in handling emergency cases, like during a fire, flood or other disasters. - Bernama
