KOTA BHARU - The proposal made by some quarters to shut down operations of all Tahfiz centres following the tragic fire at Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah that claimed 23 lives is considered unreasonable.
Deputy Mentri Besar, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said, the fire was not due to lack of safety, it was caused by elements of treason.
"If it involves treason then no matter how we emphasise on safety, the incident will still happen.
"The government must look into this issue, in order to improve the conditions of Tahfiz centres, sufficient funds must be allocated," he added.
He was speaking to reporters after the launch of 'loghat' Kelantan seminar at Grand River View, here, today.
Mohd Amar added, if the government provided fully-funded Tahfiz centres, parents no longer need to look for private Tahfiz centres.
"The establishment of private Tahfiz centres receive encouraging response from parents.
"Many parents choose Tahfiz centres for their children to further studies in religion,"he said.
